From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 16): Marine Corps to conduct football for peace project

In line with its community development missions, the Philippine Marine Corps, with the cooperation of various local government units and non-government organizations, announced that it will be conducting a six-day "PMC Football for Peace" starting this April 14 to 21.

Cmdr. Lued Lincuna, Navy public affairs office chief, said the pre-event activities will be held at Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown, Taguig City on April 15, 16 and 17.

Also, participants will be taught football techniques and play by participating coaches and players.

While actual football competitions will be held on April 18 and 19 BNS Parade Ground, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Lincuna said another round of educational tour will take place on April 20 and 21.

Around 278 youths with their coaches/ trainors will be coming over for the football festival.

They will come from Mindanao specifically from Basilan, Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Zamboanga, Lanao, Cagayan De Oro, Misamis Oriental, Sultan Kudarat, while others will come from Negros and Palawan.

This activity aims to continue the peace advocacy of the Marines in partnership with other stakeholders in order to continue giving the children from war torn areas of Mindanao the chance to see and experience to live in a peaceful environment for them to aspire for a better future.
