From GMA News (Mar 3): ASG flees from security operation, leaves behind drug paraphernalia

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday seized various drug paraphernalia left behind by four Abu Sayyaf Group gunmen who were fleeing a law enforcement operation in Basilan.

According to Joint Task Group Basilan commander Col. Rolando Bautista, his unit clashed with the ASG gunmen in Sitio Lagasan, Barangay Kulaybato, Lamitan City.

One gunman was identified as Edris Sampang.

“The armed confrontation lasted for five minutes with no reported casualties on the government side,” Bautista said.

It was unclear whether the ASG suffered casualties.

The other objects recovered from the encounter site included a grenade, tools and clothes.
