From InterAksyon (Mar 4): 2 soldiers shot dead in Maguindanao town market
Two soldiers on Monday evening were killed with shots to the head at the public market of Buldon town in Maguindanao, police said.
Buldon police chief Senior Inspector Acmad Sarico said Corporal Nerger Pinero of Libungan, North Cotabato, and Private First Class Jamaneel Bulaybolay of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, were at the market when two young men, described by some witnesses as around 18-years-old, walked up and killed them with single shots from .45 caliber pistols around 6 p.m.
Both the soldiers were from Charlie Company of the Army's 37th Infantry Battalion.
The killers made off with Pinero's M16 rifle.
Sarico said they have identified the suspects and have launched a manhunt.
Maguindanao has been placed under a state of calamity after the number of civilians displaced by the continuing "all-out" military offensive against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters soared to 41,000 from 11 of the province’s 36 municipalities.
