Woman hurt as rebels attack militia outpost in Compostela Valley

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 12): Woman hurt as rebels attack militia outpost in Compostela Valley

A 32-year-old woman was shot in the left leg after a force of 15 New People's Army (NPA) attacked a milita outpost in Barangay Anitapan, Mabini town, Compostela Valley Wednesday afternoon.

1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the incident took place at 3: 15 p.m.

He identified the victim as Lucrisia Lisondra, a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Anitapan, of the above-mentioned province.

Lisondra said she was gathering firewood when the NPAs made their attack.

This prompted her to run to their house in an effort to get her children to safety.

In the process she noticed blood oozing from her leg and realized she was hit by a bullet.

Lacambra said Lisondra immediately sought the assistance of the local officials and peace and development teams of their 71st Infantry Battalion who then brought her to Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City for treatment.

Investigation showed that the NPA bandits positioned about 250 meters north of the detachment while the victim’s house is located about 1.5 kilometers south of the outpost.

This shows that the victim’s house is within the line of sight of the NPAs who positioned themselves and indiscriminately fired assorted weapons from an elevated area of Anitapan Public Cemetery.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this posting.
