NPA rebels burn construction equipment in Masbate

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 12): NPA rebels burn construction equipment in Masbate

For allegedly not paying revolutionary tax, New People' s Army (NPA) rebels burned the truck and a road roller of an engineer-contractor at the project site on early Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Bagahanglad, San Jacinto, Masbate.

A report reaching Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Police Regional Office 5 director, said the incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. after the rebels failed to see Engr. John Mark Dejuno, the owner of the burned equipment.

Earlier, the rebels intercepted company driver Ninog Delos Santos who was walking in the area and asked him about the whereabouts of his employer.

Not finding Dejuno, the rebels boarded the truck and asked Delos Santos to board also and bring them to Sitio Cawa-Cawa where the road roller was positioned.

Upon reaching the area, the rebels immediately disembarked, poured gasoline on the truck and the road roller and left the area as if nothing happened.

The report said the rebels had long been demanding for revolutionary tax from Dejuno who is constructing the road project in the municipality.

Police and military personnel immediately went after the rebels while Dejuno has not yet shown up.
