Army troopers conduct pursuit operations vs. rebel force that torched engineering equipment in Masbate

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 12): Army troopers conduct pursuit operations vs. rebel force that torched engineering equipment in Masbate

Troopers from the 9th Infantry Division are now conducting pursuit operations against the New People's Army (NPA) band that torched engineering and road construction equipment in Sitio Cawa-Cawa, San Jacinto town, Masbate Wednesday morning.

Destroyed were equipment owned by SJM Construction which is owned by one John Mark Dejumo, reportedly the son of San Jacinto vice mayor

9th Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Mardjorie Paimela Panesa said the incident took place 11 a.m.

She added that SJM Construction was completing a road project in the area when eight heavily-armed rebels appeared out of nowhere and torched one mini-dump truck and one mini-road roller before making their getaway.

Panesa said this atrocity coincided with the ongoing withdrawal of the PNP Public Safety Company in Sitio Cawa-Cawa.

Investigations also revealed that the attack against the SJM Construction took place due to its refusal to give in to the NPAs extortion demand.
