From ABS-CBN (Feb 25): After Mamasapano, SAF trains with US Marines for APEC
For the first time, members of the 6th Special Action Battalion and the US Marines gathered in Sagay City, Negros Occidental for training.
The US forces, headed by Capt. Andrew O'Donnel, went to Negros Occidental for a seven-day training with the Special Action Battalion.
According to Chief Superintendent Noli Taliño, the training includes mission planning, trauma treatment, counter-improvised explosive device, and other preparations for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Bacolod City on April.
"...the 6th Special Action Battalion is tasked to do a major role in the different APEC summit activities that will be conducted within this year in the Visayas area. They will be exposed to different subjects and scenarios to include practical exercises, human rights, advanced medical training," Taliño said in his speech.
The US Marines will train SAF troopers on various skills, including those needed for jungle missions.
"...jungle patrolling, jungle survival. The 6th Special Action Battalion is very good in these skill sets, things that we can learn from and for us," O'Donnel said.
The training is under the Joint US Military Assistance Group to the Republic of the Philippines (JUSMAGPHIL) under the US Embassy.
