From the Sun Star-Davao (Jan 13): Major in lodge slay surrenders
AN ARMY major implicated in the killing of a woman in Tagum City was arrested by police on Saturday.
Investigators are trying to determine the involvement of Major Abdillah Dimao Pangcutan, who is detailed at the 10th Infantry Division, in the death of Richelle Anne Austero, 27, of Barangay San Jose, New Corella town in Davao del Norte.
Pangcutan was arrested in his house in Barangay Mankilam, Tagum.
Police said Austero had jumped off the motorcycle the major was driving on the night of January 8.
Police said Pangcutan was about to enter Border's Inn, a lodging house, when Austero jumped off.
Quoting witnesses, the police said the major chased the woman and shot her.
The police report did not indicate the relationship between Pangcutan and Austero.
In a text message, 10th ID spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Llewellyn Binasoy said the incident was a personal matter and not service or work-related.
"With respect to lawful process of justice, we have facilitated the surrender of Major Pangcutan to shed light on the incident in coordination with the Tagum City police," Binasoy said.
