From Ang Malaya (Jan 13): China comments on General Catapang’s statement regarding West PHL Sea

The Chinese government issues a comment on Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang’s statement regarding the ongoing reclamation within West Philippine Sea. “China asserts indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the affiliate waters. China’s action on the Nansha Islands is entirely within China’s sovereignty,” Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

General Catapang said that reclamation in disputed territory is at least fifty percent completed. He also added that the project is alarming.

“Alarming in the sense that it could be used for other purposes other than for peaceful use,” General Catapang noted.

In line with China’s aggressive behavior, Philippine military is shifting focus to territorial defense.
