Ang Malaya (Jan 13): In case ITLOS favors PHL: China will stop or lose face
“We have case at International Tribunal for the law of the Sea and once the body rules in our favor, we expect that this will restrain China from conducting any activities in the region or they will lose face before the international community,” Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Colonel Restituto Padilla said as quoted by PhilStar.com.
The AFP is currently limited on monitoring disputed territories in West Philippine Sea. Philippine government is expecting a decision within the first quarter of 2016.
Amid China’s aggressive behavior in West Philippine Sea, the AFP is shifting its focus from insurgents to territorial defense.
“We are expecting the delivery of several equipment. The main reason they were acquired is territorial defense,” Colonel Padilla said before 2014 ends. “We will use them as we gradually transition so we can include them in our doctrine. That will be our focus next year (2015).”
