From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 11): Students, teachers condemn brazen NPA attack vs. gov't troops engaged in peace, dev't works in Mt. Province

Students from various Mt. Province schools marched Wednesday to protest the brazen attack conducted by New People's Army (NPA) rebels against government troops conducting peace and development works in Sagada town last Nov. 30

In the said attack, two soldiers from the 54th Infantry Battalion were killed and other troopers wounded.

1st Lt. Randy Sta. Maria, 5th Infantry Division spokesperson, said 300 students and teachers from the Sagada National High School, Namatec National High School of Sabangan Municipality, Mt Province Polytechnic State College of Bontoc Municipality, participated in the indignation rally which started 3 p.m. and ended 6 p.m.

Mt. Province Gov. Leonardo Mayaen also attended the event which took place at the Provincial capitol Plaza at Poblacion, Bontoc.

“From the officialdom of Mt Province, together with my family, we condemn the NPA for destroying the image of the peace loving people of Mt. Province," Mayaen said.
