PH troops commended for Golan ‘escape’

From the Manila Standard Today (Dec 11): PH troops commended for Golan ‘escape’

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. led members of the House of Representatives in paying tribute to the  7th Philippine Contingent to Golan Heights  for its’  bravery and gallantry in manning the observation post, fighting of the Syrian insurgents,  and finally pulling off the great escape from the rebels last August.

“We would like to commend and thank you for taking the risk and for being able to successfully reach safe lines from areas that are under constant fire from the Syrian rebels,” Belmonte welcomed the contingent during their visit to the House Tuesday afternoon.

The contingent was accompanied by Lt. Gen. Virgilio Domingo, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and other senior AFP officers.

“We’ve heard about your daring escape while under fire from rebel forces in Syria.
We’re happy you were able to make it to safety. That was quite an experience,” the Speaker told the contingent members.

The Speaker said the Philippines should continue to be very supportive of the UN peacekeeping efforts. “That is part of our obligation and it is also good for our troops to have experiences in other areas, not just here,” he said.

The contingent was led by LTC Ted B. Dumosmog (GSC), Commanding Officer of the 7th PCGH, Capt. Nilo Ramones head of the Philippine peacekeeping team at Position 68. Other contingent members present were 2Lt. Larry Endozo, MSG Wilson Lagmay, SSG Leonardo Aboy, SSG Andy Mejos, SGT Alwin Cuyos, SGT Ramil Bobiles, and CPL Joneve Colicol. They were part of the 20 peacekeeping team members assigned at Position 68.
