39 ex-rebels receive P50,000 each from gov't in Davao City

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 11): 39 ex-rebels receive P50,000 each from gov't in Davao City

Thirty-nine former rebels have received P50,000 cash each under the government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) which is equivalent to P1.95 million.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte personally gave the amount on Tuesday to the rebel returnees who all wore “I Love Peace” t-shirts.

Among the 39 rebel returnees, 34 surrendered to the 84th Infantry Battalion (IB) and five surrendered to 69th IB and to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

“Never again support or participate in any forms of armed struggle especially now that you already have a reason to start a changed life, a good one,” Duterte said.

Major General Eduardo Año, 10th Infantry Division (ID) Commander, lauded the convergence of efforts by the local government and subordinate units of 10ID in facilitating the release of assistance to the former rebels.

“These former rebels are our brothers, they were just victims, deceived and betrayed by the lawless armed group. They made the right decision in abandoning the violent and futile armed struggle “Año said, adding that, “Hopefully, more will follow suit.”

In a report presented during the Regional Peace and Order Council meeting on Wednesday, a total of 138 former rebels have surrendered to different units under 10th ID and all are being facilitated for government assistance.
