The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council
(NDRRMC) conferred the “Bakas Bayaning Likas Parangal” to the Republic of Korea Armed
Forces Joint Support Group for their selfless
service in reconstructing this typhoon-ravaged province.
Defense Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin, secretary of National
Defense and NDRRMC chairperson bestowed the recognition of merit and token of
thanksgiving for the exemplary service rendered by the contingent in the
aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda.
"Thank you for your noble service, exemplary heroism
extraordinary act of bravery and kindness that you have given to the
people," Gazmin said in his message during Tuesday's ceremony at the South
Korean base camp in this town.
Other award subcategories given were the Lakas Parangal sa
Dakila, Lakas Parangal ng Kabayanihan, and Lakas Parangal ng Kagitingin.
These recognitions were conferred to Col. Lee Chul Won,
commander of Korean Military Support Group and other top officials leading the
hundreds of military support group.
Since Jan. 3, 2014, the troop has repaired 66 public
infrastructure, which included 37 education facilities and 25 public
facilities.
Aside from reconstruction works, the South Korean Armies
also conducted medical missions that benefited more than 40,000 patients.
"Assistance was very much appreciated by our grateful
citizens and communities who were the unfortunate victims of that natural
disaster," Gazmin said.
