The Capiz-based 3rd Infantry Division on Tuesday announced
that it is committed to observing the rules and regulations set forth by the
government's Suspension of Offensive Military Operations (SOMO).
The SOMO will become effective starting Dec. 18 and end on
January 19.
With this development, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson
Major Ray Tiongson said they will be suspending all deliberate offensive
military operations in Western Visayas .
However, they will continue maintaining their presence in
communities by conducting security patrols to maintain peace and security in
these areas.
"Your Army remains committed and sincere in its resolve
to peace especially during this Christmas Season. Our people deserve to
celebrate the Yuletide peacefully," 3rd Infantry Division commander Major
Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.
Likewise, the 3rd Infantry Division will also maintain its
activities supporting the government and civil authorities’ peace, development,
law enforcement operations and humanitarian assistance programs.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will
continue with its proactive defense counter measures taking into consideration
the transgressions of the New People's Army (NPA) in the past during a
ceasefire.
Guerrero also instructed the units in the field to remain
vigilant especially in protecting the civilian communities.
