The Capiz-based 3rd Infantry Division on Tuesday announced that it is committed to observing the rules and regulations set forth by the government's Suspension of Offensive Military Operations (SOMO).

The SOMO will become effective starting Dec. 18 and end on January 19.

With this development, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Major Ray Tiongson said they will be suspending all deliberate offensive military operations in Western Visayas.

However, they will continue maintaining their presence in communities by conducting security patrols to maintain peace and security in these areas.

"Your Army remains committed and sincere in its resolve to peace especially during this Christmas Season. Our people deserve to celebrate the Yuletide peacefully," 3rd Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.

Likewise, the 3rd Infantry Division will also maintain its activities supporting the government and civil authorities’ peace, development, law enforcement operations and humanitarian assistance programs.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will continue with its proactive defense counter measures taking into consideration the transgressions of the New People's Army (NPA) in the past during a ceasefire.

Guerrero also instructed the units in the field to remain vigilant especially in protecting the civilian communities.
