US Dept of State official to visit Palawan to enhance law enforcement partnership and capabilities

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 3): US Dept of State official to visit Palawan to enhance law enforcement partnership and capabilities

U.S. Department of State Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) Carol Z. Perez of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) will be visiting Palawan and touring the Philippine National Police-Special Boat Unit (PNP-SBU) Headquarters Thursday.

Her visit comes as the Philippines and the United States look to amend a Letter of Agreement granting the country additional funding support to enhance the institutional and operational capabilities of law enforcement.

It is also to support reform efforts aimed at helping the justice sector prevent, investigate, and prosecute crimes.

The U.S. Government is looking to provide nearly $ 18 million to support projects, such as the Global Security Contingency Fund-Philippines (GSCF-Philippines) program to enhance the Government of the Philippine’s capability to enforce laws and maintain internal peace and security in the lands and seas of the southern part of the country, and the Southeast Asia Maritime Initiative project is designed to enhance maritime law enforcement capacities within the Philippine national maritime domain.
