5 NPA fighters killed as Abra battle rages

From InterAksyon (Sep 4): 5 NPA fighters killed as Abra battle rages

Government troops have killed at least five New People’s Army guerrillas in a clash in Abra province that is raging as of this posting.

“There’s an ongoing operation yet and I’m monitoring the operations. I will provide you the data later this morning soon as the situation there will be normalized. As of now, five (rebel bodies recovered) confirmed,” Northern Luzon Command chief Lieutenant General Felecito Trinidad told InterAksyon.com in a phone interview.

Trinidad said helicopter gunships have been deployed to support the ground troops.
Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. vowed to make the NPA “history” before he retires next year.
