SOLCOM changes command

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 8): SOLCOM changes command

LtGen Caesar Ronnie Ordoyo was replaced Monday as the commanding general of the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) by MGen Ricardo Visaya in a simple Change of Command and Retirement Ceremonies at the headquarters in Camp G. Nakar in this city.

The turn-over ceremonies was presided by AFP Chief of Staff Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., attended by the immediate families of the incoming and outgoing command generals as well as their respective PMA and high school classmates, former commanders, mentors, local businessmen, public officials including Quezon 2nd District Provincial Councilor Beth Sio, civic leaders and members of the media.

In his valedictory address, Ordoyo thanked all who played important roles in his tenure as SOLCOM's top man. He emphasized that without the people’s selfless cooperation, all his undertakings would not be fruitful.

He also expressed gratitude to his wife, Claudia Cheryl, who supported him all the way and believed in him, despite his nervousness when he first assumed the post as SOLCOM commanding general.

He requested from all who attended the event to extend the same collaboration, including the indispensable assistance from business community such as the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Regional Director Dr. Roberto Licup.

He assured that even if he is now a simple ‘citizen Ces,’ he will always be available to pitch in his skills and talent whenever he is needed.

In his acceptance speech, Visaya requested utmost understanding, cooperation and support to his endeavors.

”I assure our brothers in Karapatan that I will observe and uphold human rights,” Visaya said.

Catapang averred that the government is now more concerned in fostering development for peace.

”We are concentrating on grassroots-identified projects such as school buildings for peace, hospitals for peace and bridges for peace,” Catapang said.

To cap the event, Catapang led the singing of ‘happy birthday’ for Ordoyo who celebrates his birthday today.

  1. MG Visaya strikes a quick jab at KARAPATAN, the main Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) human rights front organization. The group is constantly conjuring up bogus human rights violations against Philippine military units in the SOLCOM area of operations.
