RPOC chair wants to sustain gains on peace and security in Eastern Visayas

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 8): RPOC chair wants to sustain gains on peace and security in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY -- Calbayog City Mayor Ronald Aquino will meet with Northern Samar Governor Paul Daza, his predecessor as chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), to talk about sustaining peace and order in Eastern Visayas.

Likewise, he would like to know his duty as new RPOC chair.

“I was caught off-guard with the position,” said Mayor Aquino during a weekend press conference at his office in Calbayog City.

However, he said he will start to function as chair once his appointment papers arrive. He took his oath of office before President Benigno S. Aquino III last August 26 in Malacanang.

He said that among his immediate tasks is to convene the membership of the council.

Already, Eastern Visayas through the 8th Infantry Division (8ID) of the Philippine Army has been gaining ground in its campaign against insurgents with the series of declaration of towns and cities including the province of Samar as manageable conflict area and ready for development.
