Eight members of the New People's Army (NPA), a soldier, and a civilian were killed, while three others were hurt in two successive clashes between rebels and military forces in Barangay Guinguinabang, Lacub, Abra, officials said Sunday.
The encounter
between the NPA and the military started Thursday morning, wherein six rebels,
including a high-ranking official of the NPA, Armando "Mando"
Jaramillo, were killed.
The other
fatalities were identified as Brandon Magranga, Pedring Gangdao, Robert Beyao,
Michaela Rodriguez, and Ommi Bernal.
Another encounter
ensued Friday night. According to Lt. Col. Virgilio Noora of the 41st Infantry
Battalion, the second encounter was part of their continued operation against
the rebels.
"That was
[a] continuation of our operation. They are moving from the encounter site.
Their purpose is to bring the cadaver. Nagkataon na nagkaroon ng meeting engagement,"
Noora added.
Two more rebels,
a soldier and a civilian were killed in the second encounter.
Three other
soldiers, who were injured in the incident, are currently undergoing treatment
in the hospital.
Recovered from
the rebels were 15 firearms, a laptop, a generator, and different documents.
Military
operations in the area are ongoing.
