In a press release dated September 11, Switzerland through the Swiss Embassy welcomes yesterday’s formal submission by President Benigno S. Aquino III of the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) for enactment into law by Philippine Congress.
The drafting of the basic law is contained in the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) on 15 October 15, 2012 and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro signed on 27 March 2014.
Switzerland said in its press release that the submission of BBL is another major step in the process to bring peace to the Southern Philippines.
Switzerland congratulates the Government of the Philippines, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Transitional Commission (BTC) for reaching this milestone. This important achievement together with the forthcoming substantive debate of the bill by Congress represent another testament to the commitment of all sides for the creation of the Bangsamoro, and to bring durable peace, justice, development and security to Mindanao.
Together with the international community, in particular the International Contact Group, which comprises the Geneva-based “Center for Humanitarian Dialogue” (CHD), Switzerland is committed as an active partner to support the establishment of the Bangsamoro.
