“Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Ship HMAS TOBRUK, a Landing Ship Heavy Vessel that sailed to Eastern Visayas to provide assistance to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda last November 2013, arrives at Pier 15 South Harbor, Manila for a goodwill visit from August 6-9, 2014,” says in Philippine Navy’s official social networking site page.
Australia is one of over 20 countries who helped in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda.

“HMAS Tobruk (II) gives the Australian Defence Force an amphibious heavy lift capability,” as described by Royal Australian Navy. “The ship is a multi -purpose troop and roll-on/roll-off, heavy vehicle carrier built by Carrington Slipways Pty Ltd.”
Tobruk (II) can transport 18 tanks, 40 Armoured Personnel Carriers or 40 Australian Light Armoured Vehicles. It can accommodate up to 300 troops for extended duration. In an overloaded state, the ship can provide accommodation for up to 520 troops for short periods of time.
