From the Manila Bulletin (Aug 8): 1 killed, 3 hurt in Agusan clash

Camp Bancasi, Butuan City – A member of the Special Cafgu Active Auxiliary (SCAA) was killed while three soldiers were wounded in clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels at Stand 32, Purok 7, Barangay Zillovia, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, an Army spokesman said on Friday.

Maj. Christian Uy, spokesman of the Army’s 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, identified the slain SCAA member as Carlito Perez, Sr.
Wounded were Cpl. Adul Sadjael, Pfc. Viermie Polinar and Cpl. Roberto Tejeros. The SCAA force are from a wood and tree plantation firm.

“The wounded Army soldiers who were slightly hit by shrapnel due to explosion of improvised explosive device (IED), were the reinforcing troops who stepped on the IEDs along the way, ” said Maj. Uy.

“Our reinforcing ground troops also believed that they inflict undetermined casualties on the enemy side during the more than 30 minute heavy gunbattle,” he added.

The rebels were members of guerilla-Front Committee 88 of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee, he said.
