Islamic State not posing a security threat to PHL --AFP

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 26): Islamic State not posing a security threat to PHL --AFP

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Major Gen. Domingo Tutaan Jr. said on Tuesday the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is not posing any security threats in the country.

Stressing that there is no Islamic State threat in the Philippines, Tutaan urged the public not be alarmed by reports claiming that scores of Filipino Muslim youths were recruited in Davao City by the militants to aid them in their fighting in Iraq and Syria.

As a precautionary measure, he said that the AFPis verifying all information regarding the matter and coordinating with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and former President Fidel V. Ramos on the issue of around 100 Muslim youths joining the jihadists in Iraq.

"The information regarding alleged Filipino youths who were sent to the ISIS is continuously being verified," Tutaan said.

However, Tutaan clarified that they are not dismissing the information of Ramos and Duterte nor accepting it without any reservation.

"We are not totally discounting the report, nor are we contradicting it. We are on the investigation cycle and we are verifying all information," the AFP spokesperson said.
