Abu Sayyaf member killed, another captured in Basilan

From InterAksyon (Aug 26): Abu Sayyaf member killed, another captured in Basilan

An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf was killed in Lamitan City, Basilan province on Monday, a few hours after police arrested another member of the group.

Chief Superintendent Edgar Basbas, director of Police Regional Office 9, said Abdul Lampas was gunned down around 8:40 a.m. Monday at the Oval Site in Barangay Matibay.

Lampas, a resident of Barangay Kabangalan in Unkaya Pukan town who Basbas described as an Abu Sayyaf “spotter,” was shot seven times in the head and body by still unidentified killers.

At around 1:55 a.m. that day, Basbas said police arrested Jauhari Idris, alias “Jal” and “Boy Tinik,” in Barangay Tabdug, also in Lamitan.

Idris was the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Domingo D. Kinazo of the 9th Judicial Region, Branch 1, in Isabela City for kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges.
