From ABS-CBN (Aug 29): Andrea Rosal's companion asks SC to free him
The mother of the companion of alleged Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) officer Andrea Rosal during her arrest is seeking the help of the Supreme Court.
Edward Dimalaluan Lanzanas aka Rafael De Guzman filed a petition with the SC on Friday to seek a reversal of a Court of Appeals (CA) ruling that junked her petition for a writ of habeas corpus on behalf of her son.
Lanzanas was the companion of Rosal when she was arrested last March 27.
Nimfa Lanzanas, in her petition against Imus Jail Warden Bernardino Camus, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Virgilio Mendez, and NBI Anti-Organized Crime Division chief Atty Rommel Vallejo, said that the CA erred in junking her plea.
Lanzanas pointed out that Edward was arrested with Rosal even if his name was not included in the warrant of arrest for murder, and kidnapping with murder, issued by a Mauban, Quezon trial court.
The arresting officers claimed that Edward is a certain "Ka Jomel."
In her petition, Lanzanas said there was no basis to arrest Edward, and no basis for his continuing detention.
Lanzanas urged the high court to order respondents to present Edward before the court, and subsequently order his release from detention.
