Even the Muslim communities in Negros Occidental are on alert against the entry of their misguided brothers, Col. Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday.
Aying said that they are closely coordinating with Muslim community leaders in the province, in monitoring the arrival of possible lawless elements from Mindanao.
The Abu Sayyaf and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Mindanao, have recently vowed allegiance to the extreme jihadists Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, who are responsible for the beheading of an American journalist and Islam non-believers, in video clips uploaded on the Internet.
Concerns were aired that both groups may be sending recruits abroad to fight side by side with ISIS. The Armed Forces of the Philippines, however, said there was no evidence to such claims.
Aying said they are closely coordinating with the police intelligence community in monitoring the arrival of individuals from Mindanao, in tandem with Muslim community leaders.
He said they were told by Muslim community leaders that they are even the ones who take the initiatives of sending their Muslim brothers, who have questionable backgrounds back to Mindanao.
The Abu Sayyaf is described by some as a loosely organized Al-Qaeda-linked group of several hundred militants blamed for the deadliest terrorist attacks in Mindanao.
Supt. Alexander Munoz, Police Community Relations chief of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said they have not monitored any reports on arrivals of lawless elements from Mindanao in the province.
