From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 26): US Commends Malaysia for brokering peace between Philippine govt and MILF

The United States (US) has commended the Malaysian government for its role in helping broker peace between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington lauded the Malaysian government, facilitator of the peace talks, as well as the International Contact Group for their constructive role in helping resolve the decades-long conflict.

"The US government congratulates the Philippine government and the MILF for concluding negotiations towards an historic, comprehensive peace agreement."

"This agreement offers the promise of peace, security and economic prosperity now and for future generations in Mindanao," he said in a statement that was made available to Bernama here Sunday.

Kerry said both sides were moving closer to the vision of a just and peaceful solution as outlined in the October 2012 Framework Agreement on Bangsamoro.

Yesterday, the Philippine Government (GPH) and the MILF signed the last annex of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro in Kuala Lumpur, with the hope of bringing peace and prosperity in Mindanao. Both parties also signed the Addendum on the Bangsamoro Waters.

GPH Panel Chair Prof Miriam Coronel-Ferrer and MILF Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal signed the documents in the presence of Malaysian facilitator Tengku Datuk Ab Ghafar Tengku Mohamed, to conclude the 43th GPH-MILF Formal Exploratory Talks which was held here since Wednesday.
