Troopers
from the Headquarters Group of the 3rd Infantry Division together with
Philippine Red Cross (PRC) volunteers in Roxas City
conducted a relief mission for "Yolanda" victims in Barangay
Agloloway, Jamindan town, Capiz Saturday.
Major
Ray Tiongson, the unit's spokesperson, said that 3rd Infantry Division and the
PRC volunteers distributed used clothing and food items such as canned goods,
biscuits and rice to about 167 residents of the above-mentioned barangay.
“Bayanihan”
efforts of the Army and PRC also uplifted the welfare of the children in the
barangay through the feeding program.
More
than 200 school children of Agloloway
Elementary School were
fed; while surprise games also gave excitement to the children as the group
(Army and Red Cross) brought a lot of prizes.
“The
Army here in Western Visayas will continue to
reach out to our people who were heavily affected by the recent calamity.
Likewise, we maintain our commitment of support to the ongoing recovery and
rehabilitation efforts being undertaken by the local government units,” 3rd
Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Aurelio Baladad said.
The
unit facilitated the humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations
in areas of Western Visayas affected by
"Yolanda" through the Incident Command System with Baladad as the
incident commander.
Through
the joint efforts of the military, other government agencies, and the local and
international aid organizations, the Incident Command was able to provide the
relief services and assistance needed by the "Yolanda" victims in the
region.
“Bayanihan”
efforts of the two organizations has paved the way in preventing unnecessary
loss of life after the typhoon through a synchronized effort in the
distribution of relief services.
It
was complemented by the joint efforts of the Canadian Disaster Assistance
Response Team and the AFP through the conduct of engineering and medical
missions.
Damage
to properties was also prevented through the joint efforts of the AFP and the
PNP in maintaining the security situation in the affected areas.
In
coordination with the local government units and other government agencies, the
Incident Command was also instrumental in the initial recovery of the affected
areas through linkages with the United Nations organizations, international aid
organizations, multi-national armed forces, and local private organizations.
“Let
us continue this rare display of Filipino culture of 'Bayanihan' as we move
forward towards our common goal, a just and lasting peace for our country. Let
us unite as a people in ending the conflict and in bringing peace and
development as we have to face more pressing concerns like the climate change,”
Baladad stressed.
