The
Cebu-based Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) of the Philippine Navy on Friday
deployed two teams from its naval construction brigade to Bohol and Eastern Samar to help in the rehabilitation of areas
affected by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake and super typhoon "Yolanda"
last year
Commodore
Reynaldo Yoma, Navforcen commander, said the two teams are tasked to help in
the ongoing construction of damaged infrastructures in the two provinces.
Yoma
said the team for Eastern Samar will also fix the naval base in Tacloban City that was damaged by
"Yolanda."
Once
the team finishes the repairs at the base, Yoma said, it will then shift to the
repair of damaged schools.
Ensign
Jaypee Abuan, Navforcen public information officer, said the two teams are
expected to fix the schools in Loay, Bohol and in Guiuan, Eastern
Samar .
“We
particularly choose to prioritize the schools since we want to give comfort to
school kids while they are attending classes,” Abuan said.
The
two Navy teams brought along with them construction materials purchased by
their office and some from the donations of private sector.
The
two teams left aboard Logistic Craft 551-BRP Dagupan City which also
transported relief container vans from the United Nations High Commission for
the typhoon victims.
