Outgoing
Philippine Army(PA) commander Lt. Gen. Noel A. Coballes will be visiting the
First Scout Rangers Regiment (FSRR) in Camp Tecson ,
San Miguel, Bulacan this Monday.
This
visit maybe considered as his most sentimental visit as he used to command the
FSRR during the latter part of 2008 to 2011.
Coballes
is scheduled to retire this coming Feb. 7 as he will be reaching by then the
mandatory retirement age of 56.
Fulfilling
his dream of becoming one of the elite warriors in the Army, he completed the
Scout Ranger Course on Dec. 16, 1980.
Coballes
then joined the FSRR and commanded the line companies under the 2nd Scout
Ranger Battalion which saw action in various hotspots in Mindanao .
He
also led four different Task Group Panthers (TGP), a command and control unit
that supervises the operations of Scout Ranger companies.
The
TGP that he led in Basilan in 1995, was credited for the neutralization of
several Abu Sayyaf terrorists who were responsible for the kidnapping of
civilians in the area.
As
2nd Scout Ranger Battalion commander, his team was employed to combat the armed
threats in Maguindanao and North Cotabato from
1997 to 2000.
On
his retirement date this coming Feb. 7, a testimonial review and parade will be
tendered in his honor at the Hunters ROTC Guerilla Field/Headquarters
Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort
Bonifacio .
This
will coincide with the change-of-command ceremony which will be presided by
President Benigno S. Aquino III.
