AFP hoping that lasting peace will be forged in Mindanao

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 26): AFP hoping that lasting peace will be forged in Mindanao

With the signing of the Annex on Normalization between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) now a done deal, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) expressed hope that a lasting peace will now be forged in Mindanao.

Signing took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Saturday.

"The AFP is optimistic that lasting peace and sustainable development for Mindanao is now in our reach as the government is in near realization of forging a final peace agreement with the MILF," military public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.

As this develops, he added that the AFP will continue with its current development programs by bridging stakeholders and communities as embedded in their Internal Peace and Security Program "Bayanihan" to further encourage and inspire support to the Bangsamoro Region.

"Rest assured that our focused military operations will continue, to ensure that the peace process is not hampered or disrupted by spoilers and other threats," Zagala concluded.
