5 hurt in North Cotabato blast

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 1): 5 hurt in North Cotabato blast

Five people were hurt after three unidentified men hurled a hand grenade at the United Church of Christ Philippines (UCCP) Church in Barangay Ugaligan, Carmen town, North Cotabato Tuesday evening.

Capt. Antonio Bulao, 602nd Infantry Brigade civil-military operations officer, said the incident took place around 8:20 p.m.

He said that the suspects, who were aboard two motorcycles, hurled the grenade at the people-packed church before fleeing at the direction of Kabacan town.

Hurt in the issuing blast were Amy Tropa, 56; Chabilita Tropa, 12; Ading Tropa, 16; Jhonloyd Tropa, 6; and Marielle Montayer, 16.

All the victims were immediately brought to Kabacan Medical Specialist Hospital in Kabacan town for treatment.

Bulao said that authorities are still determining the motive of the attack.
