Alleged MNLF intelligence officer nabbed in Zamboanga

From InterAksyon (Oct 8): Alleged MNLF intelligence officer nabbed in Zamboanga

An alleged intelligence officer of the Moro National Liberation Front was arrested in Zamboanga City, police announced belatedly on Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9, said concerned civilians tipped authorities off to the suspect, Abduraquib Hussien y Kurais.

Hussien was arrested around 4:16 p.m. on October 5 at the Puerto Princesa area by personnel of Regional Public Safety Battalion 3 led by Inspector Nathaniel Malmo Florenso.

Police said Hussien allegedly admitted to being a member of the MNLF member loyal to founder Nur Misuari.

“We recovered from him his identification card showing that he is a member of the MNLF-Misuari faction, having a position of deputy chief (of) intelligence. He also yielded a lot of different kinds of IDs, wristwatch, Nokia cellular phone, passport, disposable lighter, black wallet containing different foreign currencies, and ATM visa,” Senior Police Officer 2 Mario Rule Lafuente Lafuente of Zamboanga police station 6 reported.

Huesca said authorities are still investigating Hussien to determine if he was among the fighters who joined Misuari lieutenant Habier Malik and other MNLF commanders in the almost month-long standoff with government forces, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people and displaced more than 100,000 city residents.
