From InterAksyon (Oct 8): 1 killed, 2 wounded as NPA, Army clash in Capiz
A suspected member of the New People’s Army was killed, while another rebel and a soldier were wounded in a series of firefights Monday in the town of Tapaz, Capiz.
Maj. Ray Tiongson, spokesman of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, identified the fatality as “alias Pastor,” a resident of Lambunao, Iloilo.
Wounded and subsequently captured was Roland Diaz, allegedly a member of Batong Sentro de Grabidad (SDG) Platoon of the Central Front, Komiteng Rehiyonal-Panay (KR-P).
“Diaz who was wounded in the encounter has a standing warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Regional Trial Court in Mambusao, Capiz,” Tiognson said.
Private First Class Ricky Llorico was shot in the leg.
Both Llorico and Diaz were airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Tiongson said troops from the 61st Infantry Battalion first encountered more or less 40 rebels at 6:55 a.m. Monday at the boundary of Barangay Nayawan and Barangay Tacayan.
The firefight lasted three hours before the rebels withdrew toward Sitio Malabo, Barangay Wright and Barangay Buri. No casualty was reported.
Another clash broke out around 11:45 a.m. as troops pursued the retreating rebels.
The casualties on both sides were incurred during the 45-minute encounter.
Lieutenant Colonel Victor Llapitan, 61st IB commander, said they had prevented the rebels from setting up a tactical camp.
