New AFP central commander assures support to peaceful and clean elections

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 15): New AFP central commander assures support to peaceful and clean elections

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Central Commander Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano assured that their units will support the holding of peaceful and clean elections come May 2013. Alano, who assumed his position only last October and is now visiting all units in the Visayas island which he covers, said that the AFP members are ready to perform their jobs in protecting the people and will ensure the holding of peaceful and honest election. He further said that they are part of the joint peace and security council together with the Philippine National Police and led by the Comelec. “We will go after the private armies to make sure that there will be no coercion and the rebel groups' extortion activities stopped,” Alano contended. The AFP Central Command covers Regions 6, 7, and 8 in the Visayan island.
