Batangas Governor Vilma Santos has been commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve. Santos' rank was conferred on her by Major General Gabriel Dimatatac, Air Force vice commander in ceremonies at Fernando. Also appointed to the rank of reservist major was Vice Governor Jose Antonio Leviste II. The ceremonies were held at Fernando Air Base in Lipa City. Section 44 of Republic Act 7077 or the Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act provides: "Elected official appointees may be commissioned in the Reserve Force subject to the existing AFP rules and regulations."
