Davao mayor requests military presence to protect the lumads

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 28): Davao mayor requests military presence to protect the lumads

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has favored the presence of military personnel in Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District to ensure the security of the people. She requested Philippine Army's 69th Infantry Battalion (IB) chief Lieutenant Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte to provide security to the lumads who wanted to return to their community. About 21 lumad families fled their homes in Barangay Malabog after getting threats from the New People's Army (NPA) rebels. "They wanted to be assured of their security. They wanted the presence of the Army in their place," she said. Meanwhile, Pasaporte asked for two weeks to plan and regroup his men. The Philippine Army has pulled out second week of this month from its detachments in Paquibato due to some opposition groups who charged that their continued presence endanger the lives the public.
