The Department of National Defense (DND) chief visited the eight wounded soldiers at the camp’s hospital recently and handed financial aid to the slain soldiers’ families. DND Secretary Voltaire Gazmin together with army chief Lieutenant General Emmanuel Bautista visited all the wounded soldiers and handed financial assistance to them. The wounded soldiers were among the seven soldiers killed in an encounter with the New Peoples Army (NPA) on Nov. 17, 2012 at Mabbayad, Echague, Isabela. The seven slain soldiers including those wounded were conducting security operations when unknown number of NPA rebels engaged them in a gun fight. Gazmin advised the soldiers of the 5th Infantry Division to take precautionary measures to avert the lost of lives. They were also advised to remain apolitical. He expressed his hope that the incident would not be duplicated. He advised the group to intensify its intelligence operations to prevent such encounters.....
