Wanted ASG member arrested in Parañaque

A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) who went into hiding for 13 years was arrested by different police agencies on Thursday, April 13 in Parañaque City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Brion Kraft said the suspect identified as Salahuddin Alpin, alias Almad Pantangan, 38, was arrested at around 8 p.m. along Marina Bay South Shore Project, Jackson Avenue in Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City.

Kraft said the suspect ranked seventh in the periodic status report (PSR) of the Philippine National Police was arrested by combined operatives of different agencies led by District Special Operations Unit (DSOU-SPD), Parañaque police, Las Piñas police, Zamboanga police and others.


The SPD chief said the suspect, who worked as a construction worker at EBR Construction Company, went into hiding after a warrant for his arrest was issuedby Judge Gregorio Dela Peña III of Zamboanga Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 12 on July 23, 2009 for the crime of murder and attempted murder.

Kraft said the suspect was involved in kidnapping and extortion and became a member of Gapar Pingli criminal group.

Upon his arrest, police confiscated a .45 caliber pistol with magazine loaded with eight ammunitions and hand grenade from the suspect.

The suspect is detained at the DSOU-SPD while waiting for his commitment order from the Zamboanga RTC.
