From Kalinaw News (Feb 11, 2023): 3 NPA surrender, 10 High-Powered Firearms seized in Surigao Sur
On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, three (3) regular NPA members of the Weakened Guerilla Front 30, Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad (SRSDG) Westland, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) surrendered voluntarily to the 36th Infantry “VALOR” Battalion, Philippine Army.
The 36th Infantry Battalion took immediate action upon learning from the surrendering combatants identified as Lisa “Toryang” A Bregorio, the designated Mess Officer; Leonard Frank “Joniel” P Degumbis, Political Guide; and Mario “Alvin” J Suarez, Team Leader of squad one Platoon Apitong, SRSDG WL, NEMRC, the location of the arms cache containing ten (10) high-powered firearms, assorted magazines, ammunition (IEDs).
On February 8, 2023, the Former Rebels contacted the Battalion Commander of 36IB, Lt. Col. Michael Rey S. Reuyan, and divulged the location of the arms stockpile where they had buried their weapons, resulting in the capture of two (2) M16 Rifles. One (1) M14 Rifle, One hundred nine (109) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, four hundred sixty (460) shots of 5.56mm ammunition, and 43 rounds of carbine ammo. 38 pieces of AK47 magazines, 7 pieces of M16 magazines, 5 pieces of Carbine magazines, 4 pieces of M14 magazines, 2 pieces of Rifle Grenades. Three (3) springs for a magazine, Five (5) pieces anti-personnel mine, One (1) unit of IED Detonating case, One (1) lower receiver housing for the M16, one (1) magazine spring for the M16. One (1) unit of the M16 vault with spring. One (1) pc foldable butt for CZ858 Rifle, Two (2) Roll wire (100m), four (4) Commercial Radio, and two (2) Commercial Radio Additional battery for commercial radio, Eleven (11) units of BL5C batteries (for Cellular phone), Eight (8) pieces of 1.5V LR44 batteries.
In the meantime, on February 9, 2023, another arms cache was discovered in the hinterlands of Sitio Lag-it, Brgy Bayogo, Madrid, Surigao del Sur, containing three (3) AK47 rifles, one (1) Bushmaster, 5.56mm Carbine Rifle, one (1) M16 rifle, one (1) Shotgun, one (1) Carbine Cal. 30 rifle, and subversive documents.
The neutralization of these former rebels through surrender was the result of the joint and convergent efforts of key stakeholders of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) under the leadership of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Surigao del Sur.
The Battalion Commander of the 36IB, Lt. Col. Michael Rey S. Reuyan PA, praised the Former Rebels for their cooperation and greeted the surrenderers with open arms at the unit headquarters. Lt. Col. Reuyan advised them to encourage their former comrades to surrender peacefully, leave the terrorist organization, and take advantage of the socio-economic programs and livelihood assistance prepared by the government so that they can live with their families and be a part of mainstream society.
Similarly, 901st Brigade Commander BGen. George L. Banzon commended the surrendered personalities for making the correct decision to abandon their armed struggle and assured the surrenderees that the Army will assist them in accessing the benefits of the Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
