1 High powered firearm captured during clash in Gingoog
CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental- One (1) high-powered firearm, two (2) back packs, and subversive documents were recovered during an armed clash between government troops from the 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion and the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) this morning, December 19, 2022, at Sitio Mangilit, Brgy Bal-ason, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
Troops of the 58IB acted upon reports received from a concerned civilian when they encountered more or less 15 CTGs believed to be armed elements of SR SDG Eagles, SRC-1, NCMRC. The said encounter happened at around 9:15 this morning and the firefight lasted for about 15 minutes, resulting in the capture of one AK-47 assault rifle, two backpacks, and subversive documents. A pursuit operation is still ongoing.
Former Rebels (FRs) from this unit revealed that old Battle Dress Attire (BDA) uniforms recovered were being used by CTGs to lure civilians as Military personnel and conduct atrocities to potential targets.
Lieutenant Colonel Christian C Uy, Commanding Officer of the 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion, said, “I am reiterating our call to the remnants of the CTGs who are still hiding in the hinterlands to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law and reunite with their families in celebrating the birth of Christ and the coming new year.”
He also expresses gratitude to the community for their prompt and accurate reporting to the nearest Patrol Base. “I am grateful to the people of Brgy. Bal-ason for cooperating with us; we hope that other neighboring communities will do the same in order to fully end the insurgency in Misamis Oriental; Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all! ” Lt. Col. Uy added.
Said captured firearm and war materials were brought to the Battalion Headquarters for proper disposition.
