BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) called on the New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Island to “give peace a chance” now that Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Ma. “Joma” Sison is dead.

NOCPPO spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Judesses Catalogo said Sison’s passing would further degrade the NPA in Negros already suffering immensely due to deaths of its cadres and high-ranking leaders in military encounters.

He urged rebels to return to the folds of the law, pointing out that the government has concrete programs that could help them live a peaceful and more prosperous life.

“It’s not too late yet, and aton message [sa ila] is gaan naton sang tion nga maghari ang kalinong,” Catalogo said.

Meanwhile, the NOCPPO has placed all police stations and units in the province on “heightened alert”. The CPP will mark its founding anniversary on Dec. 26.
