Police operatives arrested a man and seized from him a cache of firearms and ammunition during an operation Tuesday in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
The suspect was identified as Antonio Bungcad Colongon, 61, a resident of Sitio Busay in Barangay Sto. Niño.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) here led other police operating units in serving the search warrant at around 6:15 a.m. at the suspect’s residence.
The suspect did not resist arrest during the search that was witnessed by barangay officials.
Seized were four .38-caliber revolvers; two .357-caliber revolvers; one caliber .22 revolver; two home-made shotguns; one barrel bolt with assembly for a shotgun; 19 rounds of live ammunition for caliber .38; four rounds of live ammunition for caliber .22; five 12-gauge live ammunition for shotgun; 45 rounds of live ammunition for caliber 7.62; two steel magazines for homemade shotgun; one black holster; and a sling bag.
Judge Christine Tabasuares-Aba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 43 in Tanjay City issued the search warrant against the suspect for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
Police are investigating the background of the suspect and the reasons behind the acquisition of the firearms and ammunition, according to provincial police director, Col. Germano Mallari.
