ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police operatives arrested a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and seized guns and ammunition in a law enforcement operation in this southern port city, an official said Monday.

Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, said
Ban Sali Ubbie, 47, was arrested in a search warrant operation around 8:15 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Arena Blanco here.

Lorenzo said the search warrant served on Ubbie, a native of Maimbung, Sulu, was for violation of Republic Act 10591 otherwise known as Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Lorenzo said Ubbie yielded three caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .38 revolver, and assorted ammunition.

Ubbie also has a standing warrant of arrest for murder and three counts of frustrated murder, police said.

Also, police said the suspect was involved in the ambush of the late Julasirim Kasim, the then Sulu police director, and three other policemen in May 2009 in Maimbung, Sulu.


According to Lorenzo, Ubbie is a follower of slain Sulu-based ASG leaders Albader Parad and Majan Sahidjuan, who were involved in kidnapping for ransom, extortion, Robbery and other forms of terroristic atrocities in Sulu.
