LANUZA, SURIGAO DEL SUR- The 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion encountered more or less ten (10) Communist Terrorist Group at Brgy Agsam, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur around 10:20 in the evening, April 14, 2022.

Locals from the said area and nearby communities tipped off the presence of the CTG who are planning to disrupt the celebration of Lenten season (Holy Week), hence, the troops of 36IB immediately responded and conducted combat operations in the said area. The exchange of fires lasted for about 10 minutes that resulted in the death of two (2) CTG members and the capture of one (1) AR15, one (1) CZ858 rifle, one (1) short magazine of AR15 with eighteen (18) rounds live ammunition, five (5) magazines of CZ858 rifle with one hundred and twenty-three (123) rounds live ammunition, one (1) bandolier, fifty (50) kilos rice, fifty-five (55) pieces of assorted can goods and one (1) flashlight.

In a statement, 36IB Commanding Officer Lt Col Michael Rey S. Reuyan, said that the encounter is the result of the relentless combat operation and the support from the communities in Surigao del Sur. “We are thankful with the support and information given by the locals and communities of Lanuza, Surigao Sur. This articulates that the growing support of the communities is a response that they don’t want the Communist Terrorist Group in their area”, Lt. Col. Reuyan said.

Likewise, in a statement of 901st Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. George L. Banzon, “To the remaining CPP-NPA terrorist, lay down your firearms, return to your families, and celebrate Holy Week with them. Avail the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), the government intervention package for those who will surrender,” he added.
