GOVERNMENT troops have recovered a high-powered firearm and other personal belongings following a brief clash against Abu Sayyaf bandits in the hinterlands of Sulu, the military reported.
The clash took place early Saturday, March 26 in Bungkaong village, Patikul, Sulu, according to Major General Ignatius Patrimonio, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu commander.
Patrimonio said the troops of the 41st Infantry Battalion (IB) were conducting focused military operations chanced upon seven Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Sub-leader Basaron Arok.
“After the brief exchanges of fires, the terrorists fled towards south-east direction, leaving along one M16 rifle and their personal belongings,” Patrimonio said.
Meanwhile, Patrimonio lauded the efforts and commitment of the troops and the peace-loving Suluanons for their commitment to ensuring peace, security and development in the province of Sulu.
“The tipping-off of the Abu Sayyaf bandits’ presence in their communities is a manifestation of their continuing support us,” he said.
