Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Ernesto Lucabin alias “Ashley”, an NPA who died during an armed encounter against the combined elements of the Arny’s 69IB, 54IB and 72DRC in Brgy. Mainit, Bontoc, Mt. Province on 28 September was finally laid to rest at Sitio Linggawa, Brgy. Pidpid, Sta Cruz Ilocos Sur on October 1, 2021.
Brigadier General Krishnamurti A. Mortela PA, Commander of the 702nd Infantry Brigade said that the NPAs left Lacubin at the encounter site and that the troops exerted effort to return him to his family to be accorded a decent burial. The family of Ashley was also given assistance of P20,000.00 from the provincial government of Ilocos Sur, while an additional P5,000.00 was extended by the 702nd Brigade.
“Ashley was only 20 years old when he was recruited to join the NPA’s senseless armed struggle and died at a young age of 25. We, therefore, remind the Filipino youth to just focus on their studies and strive to be productive citizens of the country rather than join the terrorist organization,” said BGen Mortela.
Meanwhile, the Acting Commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division, Brigadier General Luis Rex Bergante PA said, “Ang pagkamatay ni Ernesto Lucabin aka “Ashley” ay isang pagpapatunay na walang magandang naidudulot ang pagsali sa teroristang grupo. Naging biktima lamang siya ng panlilinlang at kasinungalingan ng grupo kaya naman nananatili ang aming panawagan sa mga natitirang miyembro ng NPA na bumaba na at bigyan ng pagkakataon ang kanilang sarili na makapagbagong buhay kasama ang kanilang pamilya.”
