Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija — The intensified engagements with the former members of the Communist Terrorists Group’s Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) of the members of Community Support Program (CSP) team of the 71st Infantry (KAIBIGAN) Battalion, Philippine Army and Police Mobile Force Company of Abra PNP resulted to the surrender of three active members of the Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs) in the Barrio along with firearms in Brgy. Bazar, Sallapadan and Brgy. Tabacda, Tubo, Abra on October 22, 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Sonny E. Gonzales, Commanding Officer of 71st IB, identified the two personalities as alias “Winsam” and alias “Lion” both members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla North Abra.

Both surrendered along with one (1) 7.62mm Springfield rifle; one (1) Cal 38 pistol; one (1) rifle grenade 40mm; and one (1) hand grenade.

On the same day, the Community Support Program (CSP) team of 71IB’s Bravo Company led by 1Lt Francis Ampoloquio, together with the personnel from Police Mobile Force Company, Abra Police Provincial Office, facilitated the surrender of certain Magno Domas, also identified as CNT in the Barrio at Brgy Tabacda, Tubo, Abra.

Domas brought with him one (1) pistol Beretta and one (1) magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.

Lt. Col. Gonzales attributed the influx of surrenders of CNTs in the Barrio with the CSP team effort to reach out to the families of former UGMO members and who helped encourage them to lay down their arms and embrace a new life.

Meanwhile, the Acting Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army, welcomed the voluntary surrender of the three CNTs in the Barrio and extended his gratitude to the community for their cooperation and support on the CSP team’s initiatives in their Barangay.

“The influx of the voluntary surrender of these CNTs in the Barrio in Abra only means that our community support system is strong — strong enough to topple down a communist terrorist organization in the area and eliminate their influence. Kaya naman taos puso ang aming pasasalamat sa mga taong buo ang suporta sa inyong lahat,” said BGen Bergante.
