TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Dec. 11 (PIA) -- Some 125 beneficiaries, composed of indigenous peoples (IPs) and former rebels (FRs) who benefitted from the training on Organic Agriculture Production - National Certificate II of the Technical Education Skills, and Development Authority (TESDA) through the Montañez Agri-Ventures, Inc., are set to receive a certificate of completion in Barangay Umalag, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 9:30 am.

According to TESDA Provincial Director Julius Sol Jamero, the said training is under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), which aims to empower the IPs and residents of the rebel-affected barangays towards the establishment of livelihood/enterprises and other income opportunities for the marginalized sectors.

Each scholar availed the free training, free assessment, support fund worth P160 per day, personal protective equipment (PPE) worth P500.00, internet allowance worth P500.00, and a one-year accident insurance coverage from the GSIS.

Director Jamero added that during the graduation of the 125 trainees, the establishment of the “Organic Agriculture Village Enterprise” would also be launched on the same day, in collaboration with the various agency members of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster (PRLEC). This is a one-stop-shop production of organic vegetables, organic hog, organic chicken, herbs and spices, and abaca plantations.

The implementation of the skills training is in line with the program of the Surigao del Sur Provincial Task Force to End local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) chaired by Governor Alexander Pimentel.(NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
